Premier Exhibitions, Inc. announced that BODIES REVEALED willopen January 28, 2012 at Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center.

BODIES REVEALED will provide the public with anopportunity to see inside carefully preserved real anatomical specimens andlearn the detailed structure and function of the human body.  TheExhibition takes visitors through galleries providing an up-close look insidethe skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and othersystems of the human body.  Many of the whole body specimens are dissectedin vivid athletic poses, allowing the visitor to relate to everydayactivities.   In addition, authentic human specimens illustrate thedamage caused to organs by over-eating and lack of exercise.  A healthylung is featured next to a black lung ravaged by smoking in a vivid comparisonmore powerful than any textbook image.

“I think peopleneed to be more in touch with the body they live in,” said Roy Glover,Ph.D., chief medical director of the Exhibition. “It’s veryimportant to understand the things we do to it that can care for it or that canharm it. The exhibit puts people in close touch with actual bodies that willhelp them understand it a lot better.”

Dr. Glover visitedSci-Port for the unveiling of the Exhibition at Sci-Port’s AnnualChairman’s Dinner on Monday, November 14. As the keynote speaker, Dr.Glover was available after the dinner to answer attendees’ questions andexplain the complexity of the four preserved specimens he had on-hand: a brain,a heart, a chronic smoker’s lung and a non-smoker’s lung.

“Showcasing BODIES REVEALED at Sci-Portputs a spotlight on the Center's strategic plan, specifically healthawareness,” said Ann Fumarolo,Sci-Port’s CEO/President. “We look forward to bringing thecommunity we serve such an incredible resource for information about the humanbody.”

The human bodyspecimens in the Exhibition are preserved through a revolutionary techniquecalled polymer preservation.  In this process, human tissue is permanentlypreserved using liquid silicone rubber that is treated and hardened. The endresult is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasingthe complexity of the body’s many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vesselsand organs. The full-body specimens can take more than a year to prepare.

The Exhibition iscurrently receiving worldwide acclaim attracting nearly 15 million visitorsfrom cities around the world.
