The Bridge Adult Day Center Opens in Shreveport
July 10th, 2025

The Bridge Adult Day Center Opens in Shreveport

The Bridge Alzheimer's & Dementia Resource Center is pleased to announce The Bridge Adult Day Center. This pilot program provides essential respite for caregivers while also offering individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias opportunities for social engagement.

As the first dementia-focused respite care facility in Northwest Louisiana, this program fills a critical gap in the community. "Caring for a loved one with dementia can be physically and emotionally exhausting," said Laura Gauthier, Assistant Executive Director of The Bridge Alzheimer's & Dementia Resource Center. "Our goal is to provide caregivers with the time they need to rest and recharge while ensuring their loved ones have a meaningful and enriching experience."

The benefits of respite care extend to both caregivers and individuals with dementia. Studies show that structured day programs can help reduce behavioral symptoms, enhance mood, and promote a higher quality of life for individuals with dementia. Meanwhile, caregivers gain a much-needed break from their responsibilities, which reduces stress and prevents burnout, ultimately helping to sustain their ability to provide care over the long term.

Participation in The Bridge Adult Day Center is currently available at no cost to families, thanks to a generous grant from the Alzheimer's Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI). This project is supported by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $6,607,011 with 75 percent funded by ACL/HHS and $1,620,872 with 25 percent funded by non-government source(s). The contents are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement, by ACL/HHS, or the U.S. Government.
