Centenarians honored at luncheon on October 14th in Shreveport

The City of Shreveport and Caddo Council on Aging honored residents who are 100 years or older at a luncheon on October 14 at the Independence Stadium Skybox. The recognition lunch was the first of its kind for the city.

“This tribute is dear to my heart because I’ve had the privilege to meet many of our centenarians and, indeed, it’s my honor to be able to take time out to say thank you to them for sharing their wisdom and experience with our entire community,” said Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover.

Each Centenarian in attendance received a proclamation from the Shreveport Mayor Glover along with a commemorative Shreveport pin.

Those honored were: William H. Banks, Eliza Barfield, Leola Baylor, Geneva Bell, Walter Boxley, Emma Boyd, Mary Lena Brown, John Carpenter, Menervia Christopher, Rheshia Cox, Clodia Dansby, Maymie Dubois, Alma Lee Edwards, Eloise Fedrick, Ruby Hammers, Margie Hayes, Christine S. Homan, Allie Golston, Mildred Cutliff Jamison, Eula Jenkins, Lizzy Johnson, Lola B. Johnson, Lola Mae Johnson, Mary McCord, Margaret McCullough, Vivian McDaniel, Doris Metoyer, Alice Mitchell, Mary Nasser, Alzetta Shepherd Petterway, Clara Randle, Emma Sanders, Mable C. Smith, Rebecca Smith, Annie Spencer, Virginia Starsney, Doris Thomas, Icefene Thomas, Lois Thompson, Louise Townsend, Aubyn Ward, Argur Walker, Maggie Watkins, and J. D. Young.
